A Shepherd Who Knows His Sheep

Looking back at one of the painting done earlier, I was reminded of Psalm 23 which describes the Lord as our good Shepherd who lead us on green pasture in whom we shall lack nothing. I could remember the many time He has been caring for us, watching over all our needs and in all providence, His protection, care and guidance have been faithful in all our ways.

Having that in mind, I was inspired to create this particular painting to resemble seeing a large herd of sheep, grazing along the green pasture and over the hills in all calmness and peace. I used different shades of green to contrast the depth of the hills while adding contrast to the multitude of sheep in white.

Working on those sheep which require careful and steadfast hand brush in detail.

Lastly, a shepherd was added to show the direction in which the sheep are headed. While additional final touch of the dark shadows under each sheep helps to draw out the depth of the flock.

Here’s the beautiful Psalm 23

A psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;

Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
